FDA Approved Effexor, Instructions

Effexor was also marginally inferior in efficacy to a newer SSRI escitalopram Lexapro and had twice higher frequency of the side effects, in particular, nausea, ejaculation disorder, somnolence and sweating. Effexor is an antidepressant of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor SNRI class first introduced by Wyeth in 1993. It is prescribed for the treatment of clinical depression and anxiety disorders.

When Effexor used for an extended period, this medication may not work as well and may require Effexor different dosing. Talk with your doctor if this medication stops working well. Effexor is believed to work by affecting the levels of 2 naturally occurring chemicals in the brain — serotonin and norepinephrine. Because Effexor works on these 2 chemicals.

Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Effexor. Using too much of this medicine in addition to drinking alcohol can cause death. Until you see how Effexor affects you, be careful doing such activities as driving a car or operating machinery. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Effexor.

Effexor is not recommended in patients hypersensitive to Effexor. It should not be taken by anyone who is allergic to the inactive ingredients, which include gelatin, cellulose, ethylcellulose, iron oxide, titanium dioxide and hypromellose. Antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior suicidality in children, teens, and young adults. Effexor HCl is not approved for use in children and teens. Effexor should not be injected intraarterially and care should be taken to prevent its extravasation into tissue adjacent to an artery because of the danger of producing arteriospasm resulting in gangrene which may require amputation.
